My criminal record is quite lengthy from 1980-1990. Nothing serious or drug or violence related is on it.

I am finding this is holding me back from many job opportunities and housing.

Is it possible to have my record sealed or handle the expungment process myself and if so, what is the process and the cost?

Unless you are very well versed in criminal law, you are spinning your wheels. Consult a lawyer, and ask him about his fees before doing anything.

Yes, but....

Are you versed enough in law and the procedures that you feel comfortable enough doing it? If you are...go ahead. If not, I would hire a lawyer to do it for you so that you do not get any surprises pop up somewhere in the future.
Keep a paper trail of everything you and your lawyer does....just in case.
