There's a combination of things that make a system faster...

For people who want to upgrade because of slow performance, I would suggest:

1. Defragging the drive
2. Removing applications that are running but aren't used,
3. Cleaning out your startup and system processes with a tool like HijackThis

Next... if it's system performance, you will get a better system boost by adding more memory or FASTER memory, rather than upgrading the processor (unless it's a REALLY old processor)

Lastly, upgrading the processor always works... but may not address the initial problems in the system. And it's the most costly of the options.

Ram, a faster processor, clearing the cache, deleting unnecessary files, defragmenting the hard drive...

Increae the amount of RAM, upgrade the video card and buy a HD with a faster seek time.

Maintenance tasks:

Backup your data
Collect copies of all your software including OS
Format HD and re-install OS

*BE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR SOFTARE - ALSO BE SURE THAT IF YOU HAVE UPGRADE VERSION oF OS or SOFTWARE THAT YOU HAVE THE NECESSARY ORIGINAL TO AUTHENTICATE UPGRADE (IE..UPGRADE VERSION OF XP WILL REQUIRE !st DISK OF WINDOWS 95, 98 or ME)

keeping very little in the memory and deleting cookies and files and using a good spyware like webroot spy sweeper and don't ever go to porn sights they kill your pc good luck
