The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

* How to Start a Home Based Travel Agency by Tom Ogg, Joanie Ogg,
* Start Your Own Specialty Travel & Tour Business by Entrepreneur Press
* Start Your Own Travel Agency by Adam Starchild
* Home-Based Travel Agent, 5th Edition by Kelly Monaghan

I also posted links to some free articles in the source box.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

My mother has been a travel agent for 20 years now she has owned her own business and now she works for a corporate travel business. With internet travel and fuel prices the airlines are no longer giving commissions to the travel agents so basically if you go to a travel agent you are paying more to travel because they have to tack on a commission to make money. Its not a lucrative business any more

If you do not know how it works, then your business has a likelyhood of failure.

Get a job at a Travel Agent to learn more about the Business before you consider risking it.
