I've just read an article about Kenny Dalglish, in which he said that nobody in Liverpool will break Rushie's [Ian Rush] goal tally. Has Ian Rush scored the most goals in English football, or is there another ENGLISH player with more goals by their name?

Arthur Rowley (619 appearances, 5 clubs, 1946-1965) scored 434 career goals.

Hmmm, good question. When I did a search, Alan Shearer came top with 260 but that is only since the premiership started.

Oh, and I noticed that you wanted English players. Didn't Ian Rush play for Wales?

Dalglish was probably referring to Rush's club record tally for Liverpool of 336 and saying he thinks it unlikely anyone will break that. Just by way of comparison, Robbie Fowler currently has 176 for Liverpool...
