Vegetating "Separately Together " !
Togetherness is GONE with breaking down of joint families !
The need for the word Joint-family came because of having got separated as small units ! Previously, family means joint , the whole wholesome gang at one place, unified in all aspects !

I agree with your theory, however if you saw some of the ones I used to live in, they should have been called compartments.

because part means to separate and a-part means the not separated just as asynchronous means not-synchronous and assorted means not-sorted.
