I am a bookkeeper and a hairdresser. When I first meet men and thay hear bookkeeper, they are like okay, then when I tell them I'm a hairdresser also they do a double look and are like "really!" and seem more interested. Why is that?

Being a bookkeeper does seem rather boring, while being a hair stylist is interesting work - you're creative, you get to be around all different kind of people - you "shape" a person's hairstyle to enhance their looks (hopefully). Anyone who has been at the hairdresser knows that's where all the gossip and/or facts are circulated. It's an interesting place to be. Next to a bartender, people tell their hairstylist a lot of stuff!

Perhaps, because the stereotype image of a book-keeper might possibly conjure up someone who is steady, conservative, dull, unimaginative etc., whereas the image of a hairdresser might be thought of as light, fluffy, sociable, a willing listener, fun etc.

I stress stereotypical, because, in reality, people come in all shapes and sizes with widely differing personalities and attributes.

I suspect that they are possibly more interested when you say that you are a hairdresser as more people would use one and so could more readily relate to that job than that of a book-keeper. Plus, of course, being entirely cynical, you might cut their hair!

I think there is the whole "dirty girl" sort of thing with being a hair dresser. Its like this...
Bookkeeper = calculator, white wine, cheese, BORING
Hair Dresser = NASCAR, beer, trucks, COOL

That's just me...

Maybe because those are 2 opposite things. I don't know. Men are weird, they probably don't even know why it is.

hahahahaha, it might be that these men your meeting still haven't realised that women can actually do two things at once!
