Not all anti-virus is good and none is perfect. Before you take a new subscription, you should read some serious reviews. When the software is installed, you should check every setting. It is important you have the real time scanner or Guard switched on, or however they call it (scans every file before you open it). Make sure the auto-update feature is switched on, or otherwise update regularly yourself. Still you should do regular system scans. Also scan your computer regularly with various online scans once in a while. Also a firewall is important, especially if you are connected to the internet through cable or adsl. For this software counts the same, check the settings and keep it updated. If you don't have a good firewall hackers can easily gain access to your computer and install whetever virus they like.

Anti virus software must be up to date. Many of the viruses it detects, may just be known spyware sites - you must read the messages carefully. If this is the case, stay away from online offers and ads, do not click on them or answer email advertisements. Next, friends always send cards and pictures from other internet sites - some of these may contain a virus and they can get in through your on line messaging. On-line messaging is not up to par when it comes to scanning objects that your friends send to you.

Anti virus programs only detect some virus when your computer is scanned. You should always scan downloaded programs and files before you use them. You are the one that must be vigilant in your computer usage. You should also regularly scan with anti Malware scanners like AdAware and Spybot Search and Destroy to give additional protection. Free programs in link below. Good luck!

It is good for making you pay the Microsfot tax, and then, the Microsoft stupid tax! google for Helio Blog of Microsoft Stupid Tax, if URL is severed/broken: http://blog.lobby4linux.com/index.php?/archives/49-Helios-Extracts-Microsoft-Stupid-Tax-From-Windows-User.html

Microsoft switched all their Microsoft.com server computers to Linux in 2005. Hotmail.com and MSN.com already were running Linux on 15,000 servers each!

Being FREE, and including 5,000 FREE applications, it is a wonder that Microsoft hasn't told you about the Virus proof/hacker free, 800 Unix Clones out there! http://pclinuxos.com is a LiveCDrom, you boot it in CD, runs in RAM disc, and doesn't collect on the Hard drive, unless you hit the INSTALL button!

We got so tired of virus problems, DLLs missing, deleted drivers, lost works, sudden and repeated crashes, the BSODs, that we switched in 1997, to Linux, when Microsoft bought Hotmail.com that was running on 6,500 Linux Servers! What an endorsement of Linux!

My, how Hotmail.com on 15,000 Linux servers, has grown, under the ownership of Microsoft!

Sometimes, virus applications label Spyware as a virus, and helps clean it. Check to see if:

(a) They are actual Viruses and not spyware or Malware
(b) Your Antivirus engine is actually RUNNING at all times.

And then download AVG at http://free.grisoft.com

It wouldn't be a bad idea to get a Spyware preventer from them as well.

Good luck!

anti virus does not prevent virus from going into your computer. You have to set a firewall to do that.
