The beach itself is safe, but you need to be careful in the water because of the stingrays. They like to hover over the sand in shallow waters. People wading in knee deep water at the beach often step on stingrays, and then they learn why they're called stingrays. You can also occasionally see poisonous water snakes swimming in the water, but I've never heard of bathers getting bit by one. I've seen a few small sharks there, but never heard of anyone experiencing sharkbite. Crabs, yes, but who's afraid of crabs? Whales? No. On the other hand, up in Abu Dhabi a few years a go, a foreign woman drowned due to a severe blow on the head (delivered by a jetski driven by a member of the royal family, but we're not allowed to talk about that). I don't know about purchasing land at the Palm Island, though. If global warming does all the scientists say it will, only the upper story of highrises on Palm Island will be above water.

One of the majot threat in any of the beaches in Dubai and UAE in general is the Jelly Fish. Those damn thing sting.
As for sharks, i read a report before and i dont know how relevant it is. But i shall share it with you ppl.
Its said that, the beaches was filled with armless fishes like Dolphins. But because of the heavy work and noise that arised due to the work for the Dubai Palm. These harmless fishes who prefer quite life left the place and dangerous fishes like sharks came in b'cos of the noise.
This a rather great issue and the Dubai Govt is trying to cover it up as it will effect their tourism. I dont know how far these reports are true. If anyone has some extra info on these, pls do post it in.
