According to James Madison's "The Federalist Number 10," the constitution set up a form of government known as a Democratic Republic. The article makes alot of sense, I encourage you to read it.

our founders created a republic, designed to dliute the will of the people and protect the interestsof the ruling class. the constitution put in place a republic for landowning white men, it was still a dictatorship if you were a woman or a slave or a landless man. however, some of our founders were radicals and they included very important bricks in the foundation of their new government.

first - they protect minorities against the tyranny of the majority. thankfully, then, your religious practices and believf are NOT determined by a majority vote. thankfully, then, you cannot be taxes to support a church you don't believe in nor can you be taxed to force school kids to practice the majority religion.
second - they slipped in that radical idea that the liberty and self-determination they were securing for themselves actually belonged to all people. It was up to Americans who understood what it meant that all people were born equal and with rights NO ONE can take away - life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It's always been up to the inheritors of our revolution to live out the full meaning of our creed!

(We are slipping horribly; the american people tolerated being lied to by the american media (i had to start reading the foreign press to get the truth) about the gangster bush and his crime family, our congress abandoned its constitutional role to aid and abet bush in his torture, mass murder, and grand theft of our national treasury, and we've slipped into a dictatorship with free speech zones, tax money spent to enrich the king's friends, bush's people spying on everyone. they are beyond contempt.

Originally they thought of a parlimentary Monarchy..........but then rethought and made it a Democratic Republic or Constituional Democracy
