I don't know logistics or sizes of Cessnas. What I'm asking is for the normal size of a Cessna to carry four people and perhaps items onto the plane. (Does this help, Jeff?)

Do you really mean just a Cessna, or do you mean single-engine piston private planes in general? (that is, to include other makes)

Are you looking for the smallest plane capable of carrying four people plus luggage?

A Skyhawk will carry four people, but two of them better be pretty small, because it's cramped in back. If I'm figuring right, it can carry about 800 pounds of people, luggage, and fuel. A full tank of gas (56 gallons) is going to weigh about 340 pounds, leaving 460 pounds for people and luggage.

A Skylane will get that useful load up to about 790 pounds (with 56 gallons of gas - not full tanks on this plane), so you could have a little less than 200 pounds per (person+luggage).

To make a long story short, you almost certainly are going to need to move up from whatever the bottom-of-the-line model is to something slightly larger if you want to carry four adults plus luggage.
