There is no way to reliably get a good deal on a mortgage by going to only one site, or talking to only one or two people. You need to do the work of shopping it around. Lending Tree charges something over $100 per lead to each lender they send your information out to. The money to pay for all of those leads they are buying has to come from somewhere. It shouldn't take very long for most adults to realize that the money for all those leads gets paid for by the same people that make Lending Tree all that money.

Furthermore, the average layperson has no idea how legal and customary it is for prospective mortgage providers to lie, and by how much, about the loan they can deliver. A quote that is not locked and guaranteed means nothing. There is only one organization that I am aware of that does anything to enforce quotes, and that is Upfront Mortgage Brokers. Their website is

If you want just a small window on the games that routinely get played with quotes, read this article that I had to split into two pieces:

DO NOT GO TO LENDINGTREE.COM!!! All you'll get from there is horrible rates and a negative effect on your credit... LendingTree.com doesn't pull your credit and then give it to lenders who are interested in your business... Each individual lender pulls your credit on their own... Meaning you can get your credit pulled alot... I've had clients whose score had dropeed 100 points because of LendingTree.com... Go through a broker... I'm a broker... If you need help, let me know... AlaniJoi@yahoo.com... Go to www.1stpf.com...
