Primitive man create spirits to understand nature around him. As civilisation grew, simple wind spirits etc. grew into gods - but since they controlled things people couldn't, like wind, vulcanoes, later on harvests, wars, you name it, they had to be more powerfull than man.
Amazingly, with our better understanding of nature, there are still some people who obviously need to believe there is such a god behind those things.
Since they don't recognize the roots of religion, they don't realize that any religion basically is the same as our cavemen ancestors sacrificing to a holy tree.

I believe man created god -- as a figment of imagination just like Superman, Ninja turtles, aliens, Big foot...etc. That does not remove the sheer power of the idealism but at the same time clears away some of the real big problems with creation of man by God.
If God created man, the proof is not yet realized. All evidences so far are twisted and stretched beyond recognitions -- too complicated to be of scientific purpose in near future or if ever.
I could think of God giving birth to the universe, but that implies a higher law that governs God which I do not necessary agree. This is because of the more problems it is going to cause. Yet it remains a possibility.
Through emergence, it is possible to view that man created the rules to shape our world. War itself is another evidence that we have the capabilities to change things in a serious way. Science, philosophy, laws... etc are all clear evidence of what man has achieved with records to follow
Just as long as we do not extinguish our race by war or destroying the planet, we could go far with time on our side.
One of my earlier answers also touched on this subject as how higher levels of consciousness could be alive but we as individuals do not recognize. (See link below) This of course goes against a fundamental doctrine claiming the universe is not God, but a mere creation by God. If such is the case, then we must think of something beyond our universe where God is located. That is also problematic.
One major argument against any creation is that view of Buddhism. Which is, life and everything -- God included IMHO if such is the case -- have always been there. There is no beginning and no end. Again a possibility but difficult to verify.
The confusion is therefore in our perception more than factual. As there may be a tidy way to simplify the logic involved.

Well I think that the arguement is more that if Man created God then god is a figment of our imagination. If god created man? Well some say the the complexity of DNA is proof enough, others say that the finite curcumstances that are nececary for the universe to exist at all is proof of design.
Personally I think the whole areguement is flawed. It isnt the right question.
If you want to know the nature of god you have to look at yourself. You, I and everyting are one with god. Neither created we are all one with creation. If god is the sea we are waves. You can call a wave a wave but it is no less the sea then the still water.

A figment of human imagination can be as big and powerful as the scope of the mind which chooses to imagine...
It doesn't prove the existence, or not, of a creator god though.
The fact is that humankind has developed a brain which questions the reason for it's very existence and has chosen, at times, to hope that there is something bigger than the scope of our imagination which is governing our path.
Some people are convinced that god does exist and others not, I choose to remain in limbo but I cannot say that I am confused.

The proof is very simple.
Do you believe in the number 1?
If so, do you believe that 0 comes before 1?
If so, you must believe that -1 comes before 0..
and that -infinity comes before -1.
Although you cannot touch or comprehend -infinity, -infinity still exist.
But we also know that we can add 1 to 1 making 2
and we know that infinity comes after you add many many numbers together.
Hence this proves that God created man although we cannot comprehend or see what god is and it also proves we can create something just as powerful and incomprehensible vice-versa! ;)
Proof No 2.
We created the God of Rock and Roll and the God of Rock and Roll gave us life! ;)

The Babelfish is clear proof that god exists. And therefore that he doesn't. I hope that soothes your confusion.
