There is no simple answer to your question, Mellisa. I assume you are talking about the askers at Yahoo Questions. It is impossible to know exactly what someone is thinking; but here are some of the motives that I am guessing are behind these
"questions":

1. To make a political statement:
These are the most common, and usually contain a rant in the details section. Don't expect a best answer unless you side with their often bizarre take on life.

2. To fire a salvo at an opposing view:
This asker simply wants to slam the other side. The detail section is generally speckled with such warm and fuzzy words as "Nazi", "communist", "racist", "religious freaks".

3. To manipulate pubic opinion:
This asker will make a stab at an intelligent argument within the "question", but even though the tone is improved, it is biased heavily in a particular direction, and is nothing more than a clever rant.

4. To find an answer:
This, unfortunately, is a rarity. Even though this forum was established so someone like you could gain insight from several different perspectives, a legitimate question in these categories is a rare find. If I find one, I take my time and attempt to provide some insight for the asker. Your question definitely applies, and I hope I have met my goal.

If there were agreements, there wold be never war. People through history repeatedly asked questions, but answers always depend on stand point. All stand pints are different, so therefore all questions will be open for the curios mind.
Many problems are based on hatred, misunderstanding, misinterpretation.
Bible is same for thousands of years, but every religion Understand in different ways, and even this is creates divisions.
Chaos which humans are digging since existence. Why? humans refuse to agree, because no such as a uniformity's mind.
Humans are not perfect, and by nature Itch to challenge each other, and so the debate will go on...

Sometimes for the fun of it. Sometimes it is to actually get some information from those who might have an answer. People ask legit questions about Wicca and/or Neo-Paganism here. They don't do it to incite anything, they need/want information, but the followers of the established religions will seek out those questions and bombard them with religious dogma. The info-bomber has never looked at any expression beyond that of their little church, yet, the are experts in the topic. So who is a fault, the person asking the question, or the person who bombs it with misinformation.

I think it's fun to knock ideas around and see what other people think. I get called names but I'm a big girl and can talk trash right back or say "conversations over" depending how I feel.
I know there are people who don't like arguments and I think they don't understand that some of us to do sort of assume the risk of being called a bozo or worse. When somebody who is thoughtful, sane, intelligent and has a different point of view than you do posts something that makes you think, it's worth wading through the trolls.
They may not change my mind, but I get a better idea of how it is in their world.

I think a lot of them are people who are losers and have been losers all their lives. They are the immature type of child who misbehaves knowing they will be punished but they are such losers in life that they want the attention, so they misbehave.

If you look at the poor spelling, the inability to present a thought in a clear and understandable manner and the very inflammatory nature of their postings, it's obvious these people are dumb, they are nothing people and they are losers who want to be noticed on here because in REAL LIFE... nobody listens to them.

I don't have a problem with people who, genuinely, post things that are arbitrary or inflammatory... but I do have a problem with people who post things they don't really believe just to create venom and hatred with others.... that used to be called a "troll" but it seems many of the people who are on the internet today have never heard the term.

Of course, there are also the ones, mostly muslims but also a lot of Christians, who post inflammatory messages... trolls... knowing people will respond and then they can flag the replys as abuse and report the responders to Yahoo. Fortunately, Yahoo is now on to this game and the people who are doing it are being TOSsed but it's still happening.

Well, it is one thing to ask thoughful questions on things we'll never agree on, to open the ideas up for rational discussion. It is another thing altogether to incite violence and anger, as so many do here.

There are many issues that we'll never agree on, but that does not mean we cannot discuss them and present our cases and supporting ideas and evidence. This is what political discourse is really all about; in fact, it is what all discussion is all about - the presentation of reasoned arguments to educate, to change minds or to further the discussion, so that we may civilly agree to disagree.

The solution is not to stop the discussion. The solution is for all sides to confront the 'bombthrowers' and discredit them.

Some want to look at different points of view, learn something about the other side, learn how to argue their position better, see if they can maintain an open mind . I speak for myself.

I totally agree with maxsterling above,

A good answer to a good question musten't be agreed by every body to be true.
Even when a question cannot be answerd, it can be useful to examine it. We cannot solve the mistery of the human condition, but we can help clarifying its problematic. First by getting rid of meaningless questions. Second, by traying to reach a better formulation of the questions wich are not meeningless.

To understand people who disagree with my point of view. Maybe some people just quarrel with each other, but I like to see the whole picture. Even if I stand for one side I do try to understand other side.
