There has been so much media talk by a few persons on the "disproportionate" Israeli response to the abduction of two IDF soldiers by Hezbollah. I am yet to hear, perhaps, the "step-by-step" response Israel should have taken before the precipitation to what is happening now. May be some one in this forum has an answer. Surely, I wouldn't have expected the Israeli PM & the whole Knesset members going to prostrate before Nasralla and Saniora begging and crying for them to release the two captured soldiers. Someone said: "give a mouse a plate of cookies, it will ask for a glass of milk". So, how should the response of Israel have been? Thank You.

Bearstirring makes an excellent point. Why didn't the IDF soldiers sitting at this border have GPS?

Once Upon a time Israeli intelligence would have quietly scooped up the guilty and quietly dropped them in a deep hole. This time out the Israelis decided on emulating America's kick in the door approach. Too many reruns of 'Cops' being played in Tel Aviv. What really speaks of failure intelligence wise is that Israel is having a heck of a time pin pointing those rockets. That should have been done earlier. But to get back to your main question. Those soldiers should have had some sort of GPS device planted on or in them. Within seconds of being snatched up an Israeli helicopter should have been in the air along with other units ready to go in such situations. Come on Israel, you watch the same movies as everyone in America. No one should be able to be snatched away especially soldiers. Either Israel is getting dumber or Hezbollah is getting smarter. Or perhaps it is all meeting in the middle which is a muddle.

How ought to Hezbollah's have spoke back to the kidnapping (extra desirable than 2 off purpose)of their human beings? How ought to the Arab have spoke back to the kidnapping of their human beings n occupation of their land? in simple terms label them as terrorist. whilst its time that the full international 'consume' this, choose for a kill! will not be able to u see the 'step-with the aid of-step' reaction? human beings have short thoughts (different than the terrorist) USE EM'!

There is not enough room here to lay out a detailed response. However, to be succinct, the response who have been less dependent upon the air strikes and more on ground forces in house by house searches.

Let me put it this was ... there is a viable, alternate solution to the terrorist, it is not negotiation, it is not military, it is through the use of law enforcement tactics. It can be done, and it can be done effectively.

With negotiation talk. As I heard Israeli also have soldiers of Hezbollah. Both sides could figure out something, without war...

You fail to realize while 2 were abducted (probably tortured, throat slit drawn and quartered by now) they also murdered 8 other soldiers and launched rockets into Israel, I think they should have come down a lot harder!
You win the harts and minds of other, by getting a good strong grip on their balls!!!

The response in regards to the two soldiers was negotiation. The response to the rockets Hezbollah fired was retaliation.

well... why don't we see how Israel should return the THOUSANDS of civilians, soldiers and members of Parliament they have captured from Palestine and Lebanon first?

not to mention the land that it occupies illegally.

what they should do is negotiate middle east style, that is - attack Hezbollah, attack Lebanon on the side, and at the same time come with suggestions for peaceful solutions.
Actually that's what they are trying to do.
