You must burn more calories than you consume, dear one.
Start by eliminating all sugars, most carbohydrates, and most fats from your diet. And you must excercise...not weight lifting, but light aerobics, walking, cycling...and drink lots of water...not juices, or carbonated sodas...milk and water, that is it.
Remember, though, you must eat. If you body thinks it is starving, it will store fat. It is smarter than we are...smiling.
Good luck and good party! And listen to mum...she loves you.

OK, don't panic here's the deal...Diet, shmiet! You can't "diet" you have to eat healthy. Cut out "white" food; NO white rice, NO white bread, NO white potatoes, NO sugar(of any color!). Eat a LOT of veggies without too much extras like sauces.- salads are great, go easy on the dressing. Ask your mum to serve sweet potatoes (baked w/ a little butter or margerine- not all gussied up w/ brown sugar & marshmallows, for heaven's sake) whole grain bread, brown rice. Go easy on portions. A serving of meat is about the size of a deck of cards! Cut down on certain fruits that have a lot of sugar (bananas, pineapple, raisins, watermelon etc.) Eat BEFORE you get hungry. Cut out soft drinks- EVEN DIET ONES and drink LOTS of water (10-12 glasses a day- no kidding, this one tip alone will drop your weight) Get out and exercize- don't overdo. Heck, just walking briskly for 15 minutes would be good. Add a little more every 5 days. Breath deeply and relax. The big thing is to make your changes in small steps over and over so they can become habits. After a month, after the party, the choices you continue to make will affect you. If you haven't attained your goal, don't be upset. It is only a paragraph in your life- not the whole story, or even the whole page. Keep going. And by the way, Even if you don't lose any weight at all- go to the party and have a good time. People like a person who is comfortable with themselves and doesn't make cracks about their own weight or try to hide. Get out there and mingle. Get up on current events and find something about your interests that you can talk about with others. Be a good listener and be interested in what people have to say.

You should not eat junk food and eat a balanced diet food the foods from the four food groups. If you stop eating all of a sudden, you'll likely not lose any weight because your body will panic, thinking it's starving so it'll store up more fat. And by how you typed, I'll assume you're young and still growing, so you really need to eat to grow and mature.
Exercise everyday, but do not over exercise because that'll also cause problems. Start with light, easy exercises and slowly make your way to heavier exercises.
Anyways, there's a difference between "weight" and "fat". And losing simply just "weight" isn't always good. Because it can mean shrinking downing your muscles along with decreasing your fat.

You sound young, so it is likely right that your mom doesn't want you to go on a diet because you are still in growth mode and she wants you to be healthy not skinny.
Check out the link below, it will help you understand what healthy weight ranges are for various heights, although it is meant for adults 18 and over so it may be slightly different for teens.
If you want your mom's support to focus on dietary changes then you should become informed and explain to her what you want to accomplish, why it is important to you and how you plan to do it. She just doesn't want to risk your developing an eating disorder through lack of understanding. Become informed, show that you know what you need and you will be healthy.
My 12 year old daughter has been talking about becoming a vegetarian for a couple of years now. This summer she spent a whole day researching vegetarian options, animal treatment and cruelty, dietary and nutritional needs of vegetarians and came to me fully informed about what she wanted to do, why she wanted to do it and how she would ensure she remained healthy. Because of that, I changed my mind and have decided to let her try to be a vegetarian and I am supporting the change through the foods I buy and prepare for her.
Good luck.

Diets don' t work. The first syllable in the word diet is die, you see that don't you.
Modifying what you eat and when you eat and making sure to drink 8-10 8 oz glasses of water a day will surely help.
Since you mentioned "mum", soulds like you are under age?

well ,there is no way out except work it out .You can try aloe vera drink which is available in the cosmetic or food shop. But u should walk daily for 1 hr at in the evening or morning .U must avoid fatty foods like ice cream, cake ,cold drink .masala ,spicy oily food for a month at the same time while taking this drink regularly, have fuits in breakfast, lunch take only plain bread with no butter ,eat salads.Take light dinner.THE main trick is eat only till ur stomach fills ............don't overeat if u r full.I am sorry 2 say there is no way out 2 reduce fat unless u work towards it 2 lose it.But simply by avoiding rich foods u+aloe vera drink u can lose wt ,but it'll take a month.Remember ,fat takes time 2 accumulate in the body,so it will take time 2 reduce to.

EXERCISE, BABE!
You can't lose 10 kg in a month, that's practically suicide. But do START EXERCISING NOWNOWNOW!
If you are living in a highrise apartment, you can train yourself and climb the stairs from the lobby to all the way to the top (best if you can find a 20-30 storey building!)
Bring a pal along and you can start cycling!
Eat healthily. Gluttony is baaaad!

I ate fish with rice (limited amount), ignored desserts (I did have snacks sometimes)...
I slept for 10 hours, and used the computer for like 8. If you sleep for ten hours, less eating time, and I think the food is digested faster. I eat two meals a day, and never get seconds...
I lost 10 pounds in less than a month.
Also, I heard a rumor that if you chew gum, your brain will think your eating and digest leftover food.

Here are some tips: (1) Take a tablespoonful of olive oil before every meal. Olive oil is a natural appetite suppressant, and it's high in monounsaturated fat, which is very good for you. (2) Eat more protein, but don't completely cut out carbs or fats. Good rule of thumb is 2 grams of protein for every kilogram of your body weight per day. So if you weigh 65 kilograms, aim for 130 grams of protein per day. (3) Cut out soft drinks, juice, and alcohol as much as possible and drink water, unsweetened tea or coffee (green tea is best), and skim milk instead. (4) Increase your fiber intake. Fiber fills you up and helps your body get rid of all that "bad for you" fat. Aim for at least 25 grams of fiber in your diet every day. (5) The rest is common sense. Cut down on fast food, junk food, processed flour/sugar, saturated fat, and trans fat. Instead, eat more fruits and vegetables, nuts, lean meats, eggs, lowfat dairy products, and whole grain products. Good luck!
