hormones are probably pushing your period off. You can talk to your doctor to see about getting on meds to bring it on if you are really worried. Otherwise enjoy not having her for a while longer otherwise.

Dear Delampy,
It is normal, as far as I know, for women who are still breastfeeding to be off their period. According to the below site (one which my wife uses all the time), "Some breastfeeding mothers resume their menstrual cycle sooner than 11 weeks and others after 24 months or more." I've linked to the rest of the article.
As for the spotting, if it doesn't go away, or worsens, call the Ob/Gyn. It could also be a very light period.

If you haven't had your period yet, then the spotting is probably your period starting to show up now that you are not breastfeeding as often as you did before. It took my 9 months to get my period back the 1st time and 10 months the second time. Check with your GYN, but I think what you are experiencing is normal. Good luck.

Most women do not have a period while breast feeding. Your spotting is a sign that you will be starting your cycle again soon. It's wonderful that you have breast fed for so long. But it is time to start another birth control if you aren't ready for the next baby yet. You are probably ovulating again.

Some women never have a period the entire time they are nursing. Others see a return to fertility early on. Others see it when baby starts solids. Some see it after many months of nursing. ANYTHING is normal. :-)
After my first my period returned at 10 mos.
After my second my period returned at 9.5 months.
After my third I *think* it took around 16 months for my period to return.
If you have noticed that your daughter is nursing less lately, that could have brought on your return to fertility.

women don't have periods when they are breastfeeding and they usually don't ovulate--if you're reducing the amount of breastfeeding then your body is trying to get back to it's regular reproductive state
