I am no terrorism expert, but i believe the goal was to destroy an icon of America, to prove that America is not invincible, not untouchable. The twin towers were an image that represented America, as the white House and the pentagon still are. I believe that by attacking America, and causing such destruction, Al-qaeda felt they had had a David an Goliath type victory, destroying an important part of a country that they view as evil. As to who won and who lost, i don't think its that simple. America lost many innocent lives, and al-qaeda had a successful operation, but it started a conflict with terrorism to which both sides will ultimately lose.

I have been reading the answers to your question and find that most have no idea and don't even care what it was all about. Bush had nothing to do with that attack. If any president should take part of the blame it would be Clinton. He did not follow up on the three embassies and the ship that were attacked. Yes he sent a bomb or two but then forgot about it. It had nothing to do with oil either. Remember the same buildings were attacked before by the same terrorists. Terror is what the attack was about. Yes the Muslims did have something to do with that attack. Most just sit back and let a few cause so much trouble and will not do anything to stop it. Muslims have to start cleaning up their own back yard if they want the rest of us to give them any respect. It is quite doubtful that the attacks could have been stopped due to the political attitude in the USA at the time. Terrorists means exactly what the word means. to create terror and chaos. I am not a fan of Bush but it is time to stop blaming him for everything that happens. Most of the blame belongs with the people of the USA. Get involved and learn about your politicians and vote for good people. It is time to stop hiding behind religion as well.

The same objective as it was for the 1993 World Trade Center bombing - to attack America, to claim a victory (and get more followers), to make America suffer, for revenge against some idiot fanatical Muslim goatfucker feeling of resentment.

The US lost mightily. It was economically a major hit. It traumatized us, with its images of unimaginable horror. It put us on a footing to go to war, a war forced upon us, because we necessarily had to attack al Qaeda and its supporters. This is because previous al Qaeda attacks on the US troops and US embassies, etc, had gone unanswered. Our failure to respond previously encouraged terrorist recruitment and encouraged further attacks - with the culmination being that terrible day.

Who benefits? Cui bono? Nobody, really.

Sure, there are companies that earn a living supporting war, but only because it is a necessary job that somebody has to do.

Some companies have made profits because of the resulting situation, with the instability in the region causing a sharp rise in oil prices. But they are businesses and that is what they are supposed to do. It is not wrong, and they did not seek this.

I would think the people who benefitted most are the women in Afghanistan and the Kurds and Shiites in Iraq, people who have been brutally oppressed for a long time.

The objective of the 9-11 attacks were to give the owner/head-renter of the building the insurance money...

Most people didn't pay attention to such things, but the buildings had to be demolished before 9-11 happened anyway. They had stuff in the walls and were going to be condemed.

This way, the buildings were destroyed and instead of losing money and paying for it out of pocket.. it looked like a terrorist attack and the owner of the building got the insurance money.

Also, it served to allow the Bush adminstration to get congress so scared they passed the Patriot Act that gave the government powers that Hitler wouldn't even put down on paper... and they were so freaked out they passed it without even reading.. heck, before it was even finished being written!

Alot of people ignore building 7. But building 7 is the most obvious one... they blew up building 7 on 9-11.. the explosives were planted in building 7 long before teh attacks... but the goverment tries to get everyone to ignore building 7... cause if there were bombs in building 7 before the attacks... then people start to realize there isn't much of a stretch for them to be in buildings 1 and 2 before the attacks.

Also, why was the power taken down in buildings 1 and 2 before 9-11? Why did the bomb sniffing dogs that walked the trade towers get fired 2 weeks before 9-11?

There are alot of questions that no one likes the answers too. People try and say "They don't add up." .. but the trueth is, they do add up.. they just don't add up to what most people would like to see them add up or believe.

It's a terribly scarry thought and people don't like to be afraid. But yet, someone is using fear to control you.

Read 1984 if you haven't. Everyone, even those who've never read it think they know what it's about... and probably have an idea what it's about.. but read it... cause the ending is chilling!

Here's an perspective you might not find anywhere else (which means it's either bunk or it offers a new insight).

I suspect Osama bin Laden sought to become the de facto leader for Militant Islam in it's fight against the West by being the leader who took the first punch against the Great Satan. After a hugely successful attack on US soil, all the jihadists would rally to him. He would then have a regional jihad army, with citizens throughout the Middle-East, and would be able to intimidate regional leaders into recognizing his "religious authority."

The ultimate plan is to follow the commands in the Koran to kill all unbelievers. Hey, somebody has to lead the fight, right?

Of course, being routed out of Afghanistan put a serious crimp in his plans.

Saddam had his own imperial ambitions, wanting to conquer the Middle East, which were also interrupted due to his support of Osama bin Laden, his stated desires to attack the US, his nuclear program, and his history of aggression.

The 1,000 year history of terror attacks demonstrates their ineffectiveness in accomplishing stated goals, but the idea is to intimidate the targets into submission. It works to some extent, but I don't know of any country surrendering to eliminate attacks when they could counter-attack.

You must read the book "Big Lie" written by a French author. there was a dispute in profit sharing between the three directors of an off shore company. the directors were, Mr. Bush, Mr. Tonny Blair and Mr. Usama Bin Laden. Usama bin Laden asked for big share which was not accepted by other 2 directors. The CIA in collobration with Mosad planned 9 11 attacks and got the excuse to attack Afghanistan and Iraq to capture the OIL.

Objective: attention.

Who gained: Oil Companies. They tripled their profits, and now the leading three make, in profits alone, approximately 200,000 dollars a minute.

Who lost: American citizens who threw away all their rights.

Who got most benefits: Conservative government elements who wanted to create a fascist police state.

I believe wacko terrorists did the deed, but a lot of other people reaped the rewards.

It is fact that hundreds of Jews were on leave from thier offices on 9/11, who were working in WTCs. It was a plan by jews to make Muslims and Christians fight, to get thier ugly dreams come true. It is quite possible that some selfish musilms have done that with some interests from jews.
See whats happening with Muslims and Christians, they are dying in Iraq, in Afgh, and every where. Jews are watching this drama...........but now thier @.$$ will be kicked in Lebonan.

To incite fear in Americans and to show us that we can be touched. It was an eye opener and we are now more aware. We now know that we have to control immigration and can stop the tax free loans for immigrants. Look at all the hotels and convenience stores. When can an American get a tax break or a loan to start a business.

To allow the United States to be suitably provoked to invade Iraq.

Only the Bush administration, big oil (remember the secret energy sessions), Halliburton and the defense industry have gained, and the rest of us have lost.
