This is the ideal time to experiment with your hair. Try different colours and shades of brown, copper etc. this will produce a very rich effect, and if you don't like it, change it againl Remember, at this age it is more complimentary to have your hair a shade or two lighter - i.e. it lightens up your face and general demeanour. Just think what fun you can have and DO NOT (as some I know) let the miserable grey grow in and take hold and don't go white - so ageing. Enjoy this time of your life . You are too old to care what anybody thinks, young enough to still have a ball. Good luck- I have a feeling you deserve to make time for yourself. xx

My hair was also brown, but now going gray. Mine was dark brown, but I find that a LITTLE bit lighter is more becoming, and looks more natural as you get older. If you get the same color as you have always had, you might want to add a few highlights. The most natural look is accomplished by a method called foiling. Go for a couple shades lighter than your hair. If you go to light, it will look like gray, which you do NOT want. If you have it professionally done, show your beautician the color you want. If you do it yourself, Pick a color a couple shades lighter than you want, since browns always come out darker than you would expect. If you do your own color, NEVER recolor the whole head of hair as it grows out. The original colored hair would become to dark and get that funny fake look, and it would damage your hair a little each time. It is very easy to just color the roots, so take the time to do that about once a month. I hope this helps. My hair looks very natural, and I do it myself. Have fun, stay young!

you could get dark blonde highlights.
Its very flattering and will blend with your own hair tones a treat.
blondish hair suits all skin tones too...from tanned to fair so your can't go too wrong.
And with the dark blonde which isn't that much lighter your natural grey growing through wont be so noticable...
Diacolor....is a good brand to use (in the UK anyway) Don't know about the US
The only thing is ..you would have to get your roots touched up every 6 - 8 weeks or so

gosh you're lucky. I've been dying my hair for years and I'm only in my early 40's. I was told by a top hair stylist years ago that the secret to masking grey hair is to put blond highlights in with at least two shades. General rule of thumb is to avoid dark colours - go lighter.

I'm 57 and my hair is turning gray also I have long hair and I do mine a natural light golden brown it keeps my hair shiny and lustrous. Everyone compliments me on how beautiful my hair is so I would go the same as me or a stage lighter our skin gets ashy as we get older and so going real dark does not compliment our skin tone good luck Grandma Rosey

if you really want to dye it, it's been suggested for many years that you go a shade lighter than your natural hair color. be advised though, dyeing your hair with a permanent dye makes it feel like rope. if you still want to, why not go with a color you always wished you had? it could be fun.

I have the same problem and my hairstylist suggest a dark brown mixed with a little blond. it really helps to cover the white when they start coming out again
