Most people continue to travel anyway.
In fact, why give this information to the "terrorists"?
A terrorist would surely wait for a lower state of alert when there are less police around.
Is the only reason to distract the public from the real news, or scare the people so they blindly support their war(mongering) President/ Primeminister?

The point of it is to let the people know that the government is planning something scary so you should stay home.
If you put enough fear into people they will gladly give you their rights in return for safety.
Those who sacrafice liberty for security deserve neither.

You can look way it your way or mine..I choose to be more optimistic..maybe it detours the terroist from wanting to do their dirty deeds as well..I would rather know whats going on and be forwarned than be ignorant & clueless to whats going on,although I am not naive,and know alot more goes on in government than what the public is told..I support my country (USA) and my President whether we are at war or not..no matter who is in office they deserve that much respect..I vote & yes it does make a difference, to me,I believe every vote matters whether the canidate I choose wins or not..Patriotism needs to be recaptured by everyone maybe then we would be a stronger nation,which is what we need especially at war time,or facing terroism..

They only have terror alerts just to scare the crap out of people. The government is just trying to get us to support him. There is NO point to "terror alerts"
