How do they explain the fact that it is the most popular sport in the World, played by nearly every nation on the planet?

i'm american and i absolutely love soccer. i hope to go pro one day, not likely though, especially since the average pro player is getting much taller and heavier. if ur small u have to be a genius with the ball like robinho.
the reason americans think football is a kids game is because in america it is. almost all the people i know played soccer, when they were kids. one of the most played youth sports in the US is soccer. this actually shows that soccer is growing and that ignorant way of thinking won't last forever. i'm no expert, but i believe the main reason soccer isn't super popular in america is because it was not created here in the US. all the other fav sports origin here. i guess its a kind of pride thing. but like i said before it appears to be changing. the world cup final was watched more than the basketball final in the US which was a huge surprise to me. we will be competition just yet you'll see.

Americans see past the sport of soccer in the U.S. There are more important sports to most of Americans. Soccer is not developed in the U.S. like it is in England and the rest of the world. So since baseball and football is more important to Americans, they don't respect soccer and how great of a sport it is. They call soccer a kids game simply b/c it 's not as developed and there for is less respected, even if it is the most popular sport in the world.

Well countries like US and Canada can afford to play sports like American Football and Ice hockey. Soccer is only the most popular sport in the world cause its pretty much the cheapest game in the world all you need is a dman ball. For that i give soccer credit. Also soccer players cant get enough protien in thier diets so they have to play soccer which doesnt really use the upperbody. If a soccer player took one tackle from a NFL player or a cross check by a NHL player that soccer player would likely spend the rest of his life in a wheel chair.

Only in America... its pretty arrogant to label football/ soccer a kids game just coz its not the country's main sport.

I am an American, and I believe Soccer to be the greatest sport in the world. The folks that don't like it, probably were never good at it!

football (soccer) has been a bit slow to catch on here in the US....but we are starting to be more interested in it...and i don't think that most people think that it is a kids game.

i am an american and i love football (soccer). and yes a lot americans are ignorant and stuckup but not all of them so i just hope that you guys realize that not everyone in america is like that :)

its just because they are ignorant. america is like the bully on the playground...yeah, its all fine when everyones young....but then when the other countries grow up, we just ignore the US and then they feel all bad so they have to come up with an imaginary friend (american football) cause they dont have any real friends.
haha...oh, that was kind of a ridiculous metaphor but whatever...you get my point.
