Filipinos claimed that the first Filipino who traveled around the world was Enrique known as Enrique de Malacca.He was a Malay boy on his teen age who was sold as a slave purchased by Magellan to be his servant in the year 1512 at Malacca (now known as Malaysia). He travelled with Magellan in his voyages. Enrique became their translator when they reached the Philippine islands where he communicated well with the Filipino natives hence it was believed that he was born in the Visayas (Sugbu?) on (approximately) 1500 A.D.
There is a dispute between Magellan and Enrique of who amongst the two was the real first to circumnavigate the globe. Another dispute is the real origin of Enrique as Malaysia and Indonesia also has claims on him.
