I heard on WWE.com that he got put in jail to stop interference from him during Triple H's match with Umaga.

Vince McMahon tells the police officers to do their job. Shawn Michaels is looking for a fight and wants to injure ‘his son’ Shane. Shane says that Shawn wants to take ‘his father’ out. Shane says that he needs to make a phone call and one of the police officers asks if he needs an escort.
Shane is in the hall and he calls out Shawn Michaels. Shane sees the Highlanders and he asks them if they have seen Shawn. Shane sees Torrie and Candice and he wonders if they have seen Shawn Michaels. Candice and Torrie hit on Shane and he tells them that he will catch up to them later. Shane walks back into the McOffice, but Shawn Michaels attacks him from behind and they fight into the McOffice. The police try to separate Shawn and Shane as we go to commercial.
We are back and Shawn Michaels is in the hall and he is trying to apologize. Shawn is told that he struck a police officer. Triple H comes by and tries to plead Shawn’s case. It does not work and Shawn is taken away by the police.

There was this huge plot line that Shawn Michaels got put in jail.The truth is it was just a set-up. Shane McMahon knew that if he called Shawn's name he would jump him from behind, just what he wanted. Shane was in front of his room, full of security guards, when Shawn jumped him. They "took him to jail" for attack Shane. It was all a plot to get him away from Paul's (HHH) match so that Umaga could get the win on Paul.

Because he was acused of trying to assault Shane, and shane loured him into running after him so the police had evidence.
Then he reportedly punched a cop, but was trying to punch Shane. So off he went to jail.
(It's scripted no one really goes to jail in the WWE) only out of character in real life

He got put in jail cause the McMahns are scared of DX!!! when he attacked shane they said he hit a cop!!!!! i never saw him touvch a cop but they were all over him like a pack of hungry heinas!!!

He wasn't really in jail. He just couldn't interfere in the match, and you can't interfere from jail!

shawn michaels did not go to jail. thoes are just fake cops. the cops would have better things then to be at an wwe event.

Because, in the plot, they needed HBK gone so Umaga could unfairly fight HHH. So, they "put him in jail".

because when he attacked shane mcmahon he accidently hit one of the police officers. so he had to spend the night in jail.

he went to jail because shane mcmman walked in to his room and shawn came from behind him and kicked his a$$. ( it was set up of course)
