I do about 6 for 2 of us, it seems ridiculous and although I use the economy wash I am concerned about the impact on the environment!

I do about 6 washes for 5 of us.
Of course, 3 of us are children, so the clothes are relatively little.
And yes, we wash everything, each time we wear it.

Maybe you want to get a bigger washing machine?
You will save electricity by doing less washes.

Also, there are machines that weigh the clothes and use the exact amount of water needed, so you can conserve water.

We use a machine that holds 7 kg.

Oh, BTW, that's for summer clothes, which take up less space. We do twice as many washes in the winter...

I do 2 loads a day for 2 adults and a small child - I can't be concerned about the environment as there is no alternative - the clothes are dirty and there is not a river nearby to scrub them on a rock - do what you have to do and worry about things which have a larger impact on the environment like your car

That sounds like a reasonable amount when you consider towels, sheets, etc. I do about ten to twelve loads a week for a family of four. I use cloth diapers so that causes me to wash more often. In order to save water I dump my rinse water from washing dishes into the washing machine and use it to wash clothes. It's just rinse water so it's perfectly clean. It may not be a lot but over time it makes a difference. I also hang my clothes on a clothesline in order to save the energy a dryer would use. I try to wear clothes a second day if they aren't dirty. (Of course with small children this doesn't happen as often as I'd like.) My husband and I also share towels when we bathe. Ultimately though, in order to keep reasonable standards of cleanliness, you have to wash a certain amount of loads a week. Just do your best to conserve and don't worry too much.

there is 3 of us here: and I do wash 2 times a week. 5 loads both times.
I dont think about the "impact on the environment" because clothes need washed and there is no around it.

There are 2 of us and we do either 2 or 3 washes a week - one white and 1 or 2 coloureds.

The loads are pretty full though.

I do about 2 loads a day so that would make 14 per week. But there are 5 of us.

Up until two months ago, I did none. That's the great part in having a husband!! LOL. But seriously, I do at least 3-6 loads a week, depending on what's being washed.

P.S. I didn't get rid of the husband, he just went back to work. :)

too bloody much, i've got a massive basket full sitting there, i do around 6-8 a week, for 2 of us but sometimes i can half that if i cram lots in 1 wash, i know i shouldnt but, it gets the pile down quicker, its the worst chore i can think of!
