Why do people always genorilize by clumping a whole religion or country together insted of looking at every person based on their choices in like, not who they worship or where they live. Do you belive its just easier for people to genorilize or do you think it is something else. Like haven't you seen a lot of postings that clump one race, religion or country together. I am not saying I dont do it sometimes i am just asking for your veiws on why we do it! thanx for your input!

I think it comes from the view point that "the whole is greater then it's parts"
I agree with you, "clumping" is a poor view. it maybe a quick and easy but, it is not the true picture.

When I watched a travel documentary a couple of months ago, the show featured a Tibetan Buddhist monastery atop a hill in Scotland and Scottish buddhist monks chanting...I was really amazed! I've always assumed that Scotland's a place near England, you get loads of Scottish shepherds watching over their flock and the church bells ring regularly each Sunday.
Generalisation is inevitable, especially when there are so much boundaries across nations. Generalisation isn't all that bad because it educates people quick facts and figures about each nation...but of course, there are always exceptions to the rule.
The most important attitude we need to embrace in the growing trend of globalisation, is to have an open mind and not stereotype each individual too quickly, that's all.

Though you are right we can be judgmental of a person merely for being part of a certain group, religion, or race.....sometimes the generalizations are just that. In general they can be accurate. It depends on the mind that releases said generalization. Are they generalizing to simplify? Sometimes. Do they generalize because they are ignorant of certain views? Sometimes. Look at the source before letting a generalized insult offend you. If the view is clearly guided by lack of information than maybe they only need someone to kindly explain this to them. Most of the time they will firmly believe the misguided facts. Oh wait did I just generalize? Sonofa..

Actually, those that have their beliefs don't "generalize". But, you do bring up an interesting comment...yes, in YAHOO it seems that there are some very outspoken individuals that seem to clump religions into groups, instead of thinking of them as individuals. This can also be based on past events and past history - along with ignorance.
This is only my opinion.

generalizations are easy conclusions to jump to. most people don't want to think. even though reality is more complicated we just want to see a black and white picture, us good/ them bad. i put up a similar question because reading all those coments bothered me. when i read the results i got the impression that the people writing this stuff are in the minority, they just happen to be loud angry people who think that there opinions are the obvious right answers.

In this time with so many different issues to deal with it is expedient to group issues under a common label.
Not necessarily the best but most efficient

It's called stereotyping and it is normal. Just like being scared of dogs if you have a bad experience with one you can always be afraid of dogs.

because majority out weights the few, and if the majority represents a population then people tend to generalize.
