find a picture of someone in a magazine or find someone on the street. a scene that seems to captivate your attention.
( like a person crying over a body,) war pictures are good .
As long as the picture seems to fascinate you.
how is the person feeling what are they thinking ?
what are thier beliefs in life
then you can go backwards and explain how the person got into that situation.
you already have the story inside you. the picture in the magazine or person in real life will just help being that story out

You could write about how 2 people are driving down the road, happy and carefree, on their way to the beach or just out to lunch when their lives are suddenly and tragically altered by a drunk driver coming the other direction or by an animal in the middle of the road causing a bad wreck. One might die or be paralyzed.

Depending on how much time you have to write your 'novel', you might try going down to your local fire department and chatting with the firemen there about fires and rescues they have been to. Then go home while all the stories are fresh in your mind, make up some names and write your 'novel'. Good luck.

A drama story, eh? I can give you a paragraph, then let your imagination lead you the rest of the way...
I walked slowly through the dark alley way on my own. I heard footsteps, but no one was there when I turned around. I continued walking, turning back every now and again. All of a sudden, I caught a glimpse of something, something black and fast. I turned and ran!

Your best bet is to write something you know about, it doesn't have to be your life story. At least make the main elements subjects that you already know. That will make your story more three dimensional. (more real feeling) Then you add to, or subract from and let your mind wander.
-Good Luck!

Well... It actually depends on your strengths and weaknesses. Are you good at writing murder mysteries? If yes, write one. Are you good at writing romance stories? If yes then write one. (I actually enjoy reading murder mysteries a lot, so if i was your prof, I would give you a better grade...)

How about taking your fave film and making your own story round it, making you the main character. Set it round somewhere you know and add your own bits.
Good luck!
