My understanding is that a mouse or rat can get its entire body through any opening its head fits through-a rat a hole the size of a US quarter dollar,a mouse a hole the size of a US dime or penny.A mouse or rat can--and I KNOW that rats often do(I've seen film of it)--enter homes by climbing up the drain pipe(the one that goes TO the sewer),they climb past the very shallow water barrier of the toilet and get in your home that way.(rats can jump much higher than it would take to clear a toilet, they can tread water for days, gnaw through metal pipes and survive a four-story fall to concrete too) The drain pipe in your home only has water in it when the toilet flushes or water is drained in a sink, etc, and then only briefly and after it gets out of the short drains that you see it connects to a large diameter pipe which is never totally full of water, there is not enough volume even if all sinks, etc, are drained at once--and even if it were rats and mice have very sharp, strong claws and would probably not be dislodged unless the pipe were new,and perhaps not then.

Yes it is, all drain lines have a (tee, open air line) in them so the water will not have a problem draining. If it didn't the water would have to take turns passing through the drain line. Bubbling would accrue at the the tub drain if it didn't.
This other pipe normally extends past the roof or vents though the outside wall and may or may not have something over it to prevent intrusion.
Or you may have a hole somewhere in your appartment you don't know about.

Well it's possible it came through the plug... But a small baby mouse probably wouldn't travel alone or that far.. If you have a cat in your house do not doubt the possibility that the cat could be saving a meal :).

i doubt very much that it came in from the drain. its more likely that it got in the tub and couldnt get out.
