Your lips could be losing color due to many reasons. Your diet , smoking , tension and of course your lipstick. Check that you are using a good brand. Some brands have a lot of lead in the content - one way to check this is - draw a light line of the lipstick on your palm / inner wrist (just like you are when you buy it) them rub a gold ring on the same . if the color changes to black - there is lead in the lipstick. the darker it turns the more lead.
Couple of remedies
Sitch to lip gloss for work or lighter lip colors
use a foundation on your lips before applying the color
or use petroleum jelly first
for work use moisturiser based lipsticks
use lime and milk cream on your lips before going to bed
all the best

What lipstick do you wear? I don't think the darkening of lips is due to wearing lipstick for a long time. Try not wearing lipstick for some days, apply lipbalm or petroleum jelly for a few days & see if there is some difference.

You probably wear a dark coloured lipstick. If so, try wearing a lighter shade. Or better yet, just use lip gloss for a while.
If you already use a light shade, then you have vitamin deficiency. Take Vit-B supplements and drink plenty of water.

Where I come from there's this oil called Bio-oil. It removes any dark skin patches...and I mean ANY! It really does work on anything, even old acne, sore etc. scars become lighter. I'm not sure if it's sold in america but jus go to their website and find out!
Good luck!
P.s...don't you dare use bleach!! Other than being expensive, and bad for your skin, you might end up with something worse on your lips!! I don't even want to think about it!! It's scary!

i do this myself so i know it works. when you brush your teeth, include your lips. brush them too. the lipstick remnants apparently remain and discolor the lips. an older relative told me this and i just recently did it. it does work, although it will probably take a little more time with you since you use lipstick longer
