That could be your fans, speeding up and slowing down or just humming along at one speed

Is it a branded computer like one from Dell / Hp or Apple? Call up their support immediately. Donot try to open the system tower. It could be a faulty hard drive / Optical drive (CD / DVD) or even any other part makin the noise.

When do you hear the hummin? When you initially switch on the system or much later when the system is idle?

based the sound comes from the system it will easy for u to register a call in the service center:

First identify where the sound comes from ur system:

1) Due to fan stuck inside the SMPS (Power supply) the sound may come. clean with ur vacuum cleaner.

2) Open the system cabinet chk whether any cable is get stuck in the CPU fan , try to release it make it proper.

3) If problem comes from ur Harddisk , better call the service center for replacement.

At 6 months, a rhythmic humming might mean that your computer is more valuable than you think. By 6 years, you might hear a symphony.
