Yahoo Answers is a great tool from yahoo. But we have people using "I'm so lonely", "Looking for a date" as questions? this is the start, i can tell.

Some people repeat their questions over and over and there are trashy responses to a lot of questions by people trying to be comedians. as soon as porn and virus runners starts to advertise in this thing, i am out. (what's to say they aren't already here) but like msn chatrooms, like chat rooms in general, answers is at threat from those who don't care for answers to questions. what can be done to stop meltdown?

keep it fun, but don't let it turn into a trash site! what do you think?

I agree 100%
But it can be kept clean if we ALL read the community Guidelines and REPORT EVERY Violation we see.

Yahoo can't do it by themselves. There are thousands of questions and answers posted daily and only a handful of people working at yahoo answers. It's up to ALL OF US to help them and REPORT violators.

I am certainly no angel but this is a public forum with children and people that don't know any better and will click any link they see, so if I see anything "BAD" or a SCAM link I report it. I average 40 reports a day and I only report the really BAD ones. A little joke now and then is ok, but most people are looking for serious answers. Besides there is a "JOKE" section for those that want it.

Absolutely, about ten - twelve years ago the internet was fantastic, there was enough content to look up what you wanted and pop-ups were virtually unknown.

Now indeed we have entered a decadent era the web has become too cluttered and I reckon within the next 5-10 years will grind to a halt, people will stop using it because they just cant find what they want.

Steps to fix the web

1. Sites actually say what they are about, I dont want to look for used cars and end up with russian brides on www.auto-sales.com (fictitious URL)

2. Ban pop-ups, except from trusted sites

3. People should use the correct domain
i.e. com=all commercial sites
how about com.uk (commercial UK sites) etc

.nch = non-commercial homepage
.cha = charity

etc etc

we dont need to censor or ban internet content, it just has to be organised properly

It is indeed an over-bloated object.

I agree totally and find myself reporting the trash on a regular basis. Some people don't realise there are young children out there who use Answers - would they want THEIR children to see some of the postings on here? I think not!

There are separate sites for the 'lonely hearts' brigade - I'm sure they could find them if they tried.

I thought the whole point of Answers was to do just that - find a quick answer to something you need, not 'How are you today? What did you do last night?'

Keep reporting the trash and filth and it may just end up being used for what it was originally meant for - ANSWERS

My thinking is that Yahoo should strictly monitor this site to make sure that serious minded individuals have access to this site. This can be done by deactivating persons who consistently ask or answers questions in fashions not tolerable.

To avoid giving this site a non-serious look, questions and answers should be subjected to editing before acceptance

I do love the site as well, and I have had good answers to my questions (from resonnable people).
Unfortunately there will always be abusive people.
Like those answering "yeah" just to get 2 points!
Or those who answer and do not have a clue what they are talking about.
Maybe we should report abuse on any answer (or question) we consider "out of place", and a "moderator" in Yahoo could barre access to these idiots...

At this time of year when kids are on holiday, it is highly likely that they'll go online and 'answers' provides them with quick and easy 'entertainment'.

Whilst some people ask interesting and relevant questions, kids may not be so interested in being 'serious'.

Maybe Yahoo could sub-divide 'answers' into adult, teen, kids so that all can direct themselves to an area where they find like minded questions & answers.

This is a brilliant forum for the more intelligent and educated contributors.

Do NOT allow the verbal vandals to drive you away.

Many people have asked good questions and received some excellent responses.

There is nothing wrong with genuine good humoured comment

When abuse is reported it should go directly to Yahoo who would then adjudicate and where necessary remove the offending.email address.

I think life is like that. I sometimes have a laugh, I sometimes want to be serious. Answers is full of all kinds of life. It has to be. The chit-chat questions irritate, but so what. I'd hate for answers to become too serious or too silly. I'd also hate if it became too heavily policed.
