Because you let them lower your self-esteem. Oh and don't confuse the religion with it's practitioners.

It's not just Islam (by any means) and like other people have said, it's usually the older generations and fundamentalists of all religions that do this that are the problem. Don't let it bother you. Not all Islamic people, nor all Christians (the other major culprit in gay-bashing) view things like this. Don't blame an entire religion or group of people for what a few vocal ones do.

Also, no one can lower your self esteem but yourself. Believe in yourself, surround yourself with positive people, and boot those who put you down out the door. There will always be people who are violently afraid of your lifestyle. This goes for other lifestyles as well, not just gays.

And America is growing more and more gay-friendly. I believe it will only continue to do so, unless some uber-fundie-conservative regime actually does succeed in turning us into a "Christian nation".

Okay, don't take offense to this, cuz I am straight, but I don't think America has ever been more gay-friendly than it is right now. People seem to be more exceptant and okay with diverse sexuality than ever. And regardless of the vast growth of that religion, it's still a minority, and probably always will be.

I'm going to put it like this: everyone sins. Some lie; some steal; whatever it may be. But no one is perfect. No one has the right to look down their nose and judge you. What you believe in your heart is what matters. People that are filled with hate and prejudices and stereotypes have already created their own doom...don't let them affect you as well. Just be you, and love the people who are loving, and steer clear of the ones that aren't!

I find that religious teachings are often offensive towards gay people. It's not just islam though. The bible portrays similar teachings.
However, I do have friends who are gay and muslim, like I have friends who are christians and gay. I think that these old fashioned, disgusting teachings are not believed by many any more, so I would not fear its growth. I can only hope that America will become more gay friendly as time progresses.

You can't get over this freaking religion. All orthodox religions hate us. They use that hate to keep us down. The religious bigots use words in a book (from where?) to condemn us.
Let go of the fear of religion and be the best damn gay person you can be. Educate others about what bein gay really is. You know the ripple effect. Each one, teach one. That's all we can do. Stay strong. Be out as much as possible and let those religious freaks rot in their own hell.

Gay lifestyles, discourage reproduction and monogamy in relationships where offspring are desired. All societies who dislike gay lifestyles probably do so BECAUSE they interfere with the growth and wholeness of biological families, encourage polygamy in relationships where offspring are desired and may encourage future generations to imitate this lifestyle model. Unfortunately, for you, gays are a minority in this country. Nevertheless, any one or any group that advocates violence against gay people is wrong and needs to stop. Violence accomplishes nothing. Sexual preference is a matter of choice and America is a land where freedom of choice is currently, upheld. However, with the changes coming along with some of the radical religious groups now growing in the USA, it does not seem likely to become more gay friendly.

ok.
first, it is christianity in America that makes gay people in the US suffer, not islamists.
Second, Islam is not the same everywhere. Turkey is quite Islamic, but it i quite liberal to gay people. So was Lebanon (not anymore, it seems, it has just disappeared from the map.)
Third, Malaysia is Islamic also (officially), and there are gay clubs and quite a respectable gay comunity.

You are having a very wrong perspective based on impressions.
The best is, travel, experience, and see. Dont believe what you hear from people who havent been anywhere.

times will only get more rough for people on earth... its getting more and more populated... less and less decent quality oxygen, more and more pissed* off angry bitter people set in their beliefs and determined to force them on everyone they can and kill anyone who refuse to let them... its a sad sad world...
Stop reading so much news and so many books on this topic..
It obviously causes you more harm then good.. if nothing else give yourself a break from it...enough time to recover...

religion was formed by man.. most religions are based on the same general core principles... throughout history men from all walks of life have read the scriptures in the bible, and all of them have interpreted them differently. In a short version this is how there have came to be so many different religions and add spin offs from religions that already existed... man alive... its overwhelming... it is for this reason that I am anti religion...
That doesn't mean I don't serve god... it just means that i don't need a group of people ( organized religion ) to decide what my beliefs are or even worse... I don't want to search for a religion that believes the same as I do and not find it and have to "settle" for one that believes in 75% of my core beliefs..
When its a relationship between just myself and God... I sacrifice nothing...
dont let it get to you, if you can help it .... try to focus on the positives... if all else fails.. pray and and say I cant handle this one, anymore... I'm giving it to you... and as long as you allow him to hang onto it ( the worry and upset and the very issue itself ) Im willing to bet even if its not as quick as you might want it to happen.... you will get relief ..not when you want it... but when you really need it..

in 2050 that's forty some years away. By that time hopefully people wont be so ignorant. fad religion usually doesn't last more than 10-15 years don't worry about it. At least not enough to ruin your life.

Not liistening to me by email are you?

Islam is not going to become a threat to gays, not all Muslims are fundamentalists -- and yes America will become more gay friendly.

Do you have a different agenda than you appear to?
