this will be a useful tool to improve the discourse in "Politics and Government" In other words, do you think it will cut back on the racial insults, racial stereotyping and other offensive epithets? Or do the new Answers abuse categories go too far in the direction of censorship?

These are good reponses, which in my view means that people are expressing a variety of opinions.

Having seen some of the things that are said yahoo answers I think it is necessay. The first step though is to have people actually report the abuse, until people actively participate you can have as many categories as you like, it won't make the slightest difference

As a private organization, Y!A may use any rules it chooses. Censorship

Will it cut down on the insults? Maybe a little. Some people on here don't give a hoot what they say. It seems that even if you get kicked off, you can come back on with a new name.

Perhaps Yahoo can leave some kind of hidden 'marker' on a computer. That way, if the person gets kicked off more than once, all access from that computer can be denied.

I kinda like the new yahoo answers categories! Gives more detail and meaning for the ones who are reporting abuse! Then of course you can add more.

"You're all just like those dumb __________"

You mean like that? I haven't seen it yet, but thanks for alerting me. I'm sure I'll be using it to report someone before too long.
