hey, what does gravity have to do with planetary motion? please explain fully or give me a web link. this is for a project, and internet not helping much. thnks very much.

gravity attracts the planets towards the center. it is the centripetal force. the centrifugal force acts outwanrds on these planets . the magnitude of these both is almost equal and hence the planets remain in their specified orbits.

Gravity opposes repelling forces such as centrifugal & centrepetal forces, to allow bodies to orbit each another.

However, there MAY also be an extremely weak "dark energy" that repels bodies. This is a force that was only found, when observing the red-shift in pulsars to try to calculate the slow down in the expansion in the universe - they realised the expansion is speeding up - ergo, some weak "dark energy" is repelling bodies.
