I am going to boarding school (to teach) in a few weeks. Due to my holiday, I need to start packing and preparing now. What should I bring? Thanks

Mufti (smart casual clothing for trips)
Your subfusc (if it's that sort of old school)
Everyday clothing (shirts, pants, suits etc)
A warm waterproof coat and gloves (lots of standing around at matches, before chapel etc)
At least one black tie outfit for year end/christmas/leaving balls
Good books (if you end up supervising detention)
Sports kit & swimwear inc gym towel
Tough boots and warm sock (field trips/class trips etc)
Whiteboard/overhead pens (yes they provide them but they always run out)
A really good diary - there will be lots of events you'll have to be aware of because some will affect your classes
A good note book - you'll have a lot of names to learn very quickly (including the parents of the kids)

If you are living in house:
lots of pants (laundry is only once a week - bring a net bag to put your small's in so they don't get lost)
Cash's (name labels so you can identify your clothing - I guarantee someone else will have the same coat/gloves etc)
Homely stuff - a favorite picture, your duvet, towels etc
Good books for when you're supervising detention/prep/signing in etc
A good tuck box (usually a small trunk with a good lock on it - kids can get everywhere and there's some stuff you need to keep locked securely - booze, fags, personal stuff like passports and credit card statements)

You'll have a great time - it's always a bit of a shock to the system but soon it will be second nature.

At the Boarding School I went to as a pupil the Boarding Staff had a flat in the relevant boarding house. They basically had everything in there to live. I think they even had a kitchen. Treat it as a furnished rented flat.

Good luck in the new job!

laundry days are few and far between so plenty of undies

a travel iron or similar - laundry gets washed but not much else

a lockable tuck box for bits and pieces - used to use mine to hide empty wine bottles after we'd smuggled drink in!!

extra name tapes - they always fall off, try the iron-on ones if you're useless at sewing

medical stuff - little things like plasters and aspirin as the house matrons are normally quite stingy about handing out these things

hot water bottle - central heating not always a priority!

torch - neither are hallway lights after lights out!

stamps - these are like gold dust, guard them with your life

............. just the usual clothes and stuff, you'll have a great time. I know I got up to some mad things so don't be too hard on the girls/boys!

Don't forget your toothbrush! Sorry, wrong category. I thought the question was about the most irritating programme ever to be on British television. Sorry Chris, I know it made you a millionaire and fame as husband of Dr. Who's assistant

What does the school recommend for new teachers to bring?

What will be provided in your accommodations by the school?

Ask a fellow teacher for some advice?
