Spiderman originally wore the mask to protect his identity, and as an added bonus his family would remain relatively safe from the dangers that superhero life brings. Also, recently in the comic Civil War #2 he revealed his identity on national television, thereby rendering the mask relatively useless.
Spiderman can crawl due to the powers he gained when bitten by the radioactive spider.

So anyone who wish can imagine himself, or anyone else, as Spiderman!
Let us don't forget that he, as all fictional characters are created by people/ groups who want to influence mainly young people!

He wears a mask so that no one can recognize his real identity.
He can crawl because he has powers of a spider and a spider can crawl and weave webs.

So that he can hide his REAL identity and make it more of a 'mystery' for people to not know who he REALLY is. He tries to lead a normal life, so if they know who Peter Parker really is, without the mask, he will get exposed and NOT be able to fit-in, etc
