theyre good cars, but theyre not really ideal for their target audience (the tuner crowd). Theyre good family/economy cars, and thats about it. Theyre not fast and dont handle particularly well, but theyre good on gas and fun to drive.
and i would highly recommend buying one used (easy to find em with like 3-5k on the clock) for far less than MSRP and the transferrable warrenty.

My Dad owns it. Don't get it. It has good gas milage and everything but, he has had probs w/ the Cd player not letting the Cd's eject and one night he had 2 hold the buttons 4 his head lights the hole way home and he was an hour away. I wouldn't recommend it.

might as well get a yaris. looks better and save more gas
