i am doing report about transpiration rate. our experiment showed us high light caused most transpiration, and wind was second, and then standard(Normal), then low light and the least was ABA sprayed on leaves. could anyone give me what advantage for plants to changing its transpiration rate. i would like to find our mostly why plants transpirate more in windy condision what advantage would it give to plants or its simply because wind will dry up the leaves so transpiration speeds up. Thank you~~

There are many factors that affect the transpiration rate of plants. Plants in the desert will sometimes change their rate of transpiration by closing their stomata. This is done to minimize their water loss. When the stomata is closed, no transpiration or very little will occur. The presence of light will open the stomata. We've done labs in biology class to measure the rate of transpiration and looking at the effects of winds. What wind does is basically blows away the moisture around leaves. This increases the water potential which is basically the difference in the amount of water inside the plant and outside the plant. As a result, more water will be transpired to equalize the potential.
Hope this helps.

not exactly "wind will dry up the leaves so transpiration speeds up." the leaf is not exactly wet - the wind will just stir the air next to the leaf and bring less humid air to the leaf. yeah, the plant take absolutely passive role in it . But - as the previous answerer said fats transpiration means fast water flow through plant = fast thansport of materials from roots. so if there is no shortage of water, the more transpiration the better. that is why leaves of poplars (especially aspens) are shaped so that they shivel and stir the air themselves. they grow at places where water is abundant.

Wind incrases the rate of transp. the plant has nothing to do with it, the advantage is it enables the plant to pull up the raw materials from roots to plant uppers.
about the drying of leaves the plant can close the stomata due to decrease of CO2

properly placed a plant in a plastic bag, stick it right into a controlled enviroment have been you may administration the temp, wait a series quantity of time, get rid of plant, weigh bag which ought to now have water caught to the climate, be confident to weigh bag till now doing this exp, evaluate outcomes
