Your baby *could* get deathly ill. But it's extremely unlikely.

The reason you are not supposed to give a baby honey is that (very rarely) it can contain spores of infant botulism. It can make a baby very sick, but most babies recover fully from it. Only about 1 baby in 40,000 will ever get infant botulism, and it is usually acquired from dust or dirt. However, honey can be infected, and a crumb size could contain millions of spores.

If your baby does get infant botulism (see sources section below), you would need to get her to a hospital immediately. She would probably be in the ICU on a respirator because her breathing would likely be affected.

if you know that a crumb size of honey would get her sick, then why in the world would you give it to her.... that concludes your second question... and i must say its kind of scary that you would even ask and then worry about making her feel better if she did get sick..... they have great programs for parents, especially the ones that are a little lost in space.... they can help with these kinds of issues that arise... have a great day !!!

whoooaaa sister. That's the mom paranoia bugging you. Honey is not going to make your child sick, especially not an amount that small. At the absolute worst, she/he might have a little tummy ache and a little gas.

Ummm actually, honey can cause infant botulism.

"The single most effective way to prevent infant botulism is for infants to avoid honey. Breast feeding also appears to lessen the severity of botulism cases.

Despite other health benefits, honey is an unsafe food for any infant. HONEY SHOULD NOT BE GIVEN TO CHILDREN YOUNGER THAN 12 MONTHS."

Quote from Dr Alan Greene. See source for more info and for signs and symptoms of infant botulism.
