This phenomenon is usually called cross-dressing. Cross-dressing is the act of wearing clothing commonly associated with another gender within a particular society.

Nearly every society throughout history has had a set of norms, views, guidelines, or laws regarding the wearing of clothing and what is appropriate for each sex. Cross-dressing is a behavior which runs counter to those norms and therefore can be seen as a type of transgender behavior. It does not, however, necessarily indicate transgender identity; a person who cross-dresses does not always identify as having a gender different from that assigned at birth.

To my schooling, this was considered a mental illness, but nowadays, it's considered normal...but weird.
Some people, wether from growing up without a father, or an over protective mother, tend to copy the head of family, wether it's mom, dad, or an aunt, uncle, or someone like that. Also, some people feel it's the only way to be close to a woman, is to dress like one.
To me, the only cure, is to address the mental reasoning behind it, with medication....granted, the liberal community would shriek at the idea, but at the same time, if it ain't normal, what is it?

Because they want to. Why is it so much more acceptable for a woman to dress in men's close than the other way around? If I were a guy, I'd wear dresses. Nice, quick, and easy to throw on and run around in.

They have a sexual identity or gender identity disorder like the movie boys don't cry but that is reversed - there is a movie out now called Transamerica - maybe if you watch it you would get a better idea. It is like they feel they have been born in the wrong bodies. It is like their brains and minds don't fit in their bodies ; like just as I know I am a woman and feel like a woman and think like one - they feel like that but they have a man's body- like they were born in the wrong shell. Even from when they are young.

see this link - it explains it further :
