Join the rental agency's frequent renter club, they're often free, and you can get decent rates. Also, if you can buy the entertainment book for your area (www.entertainment.com) they have REALLY good coupons for rental cars. (as well as other stuff in your area) I got a midsize rental car for 6 days this past June in Vegas and paid $120 total.

Some rental car companies offer discounts if you use a particular credit card too. Check those promos. National offers a discount for Capital One customers.

Book early, and then call them a couple of weeks before your arrival and see if they can do better on the price.

According to the Unofficial Guide to Las Vegas, if you wait until the last minute, you may find they're all gone because of a convention in town. You're advised to book ahead, then re-check for rates at the last minute, because they may also drop. It also says you can get codes for rental car discounts at www.mousesavers.com , which is a Disney deals site, but has codes for anywhere in the U.S.
