You're probably waking up at an inopportune time.
Everyone sleeps in cycles, which typically are around 1.5 hours. If you find out what your cycle is, then you can plan accordingly.
Here's how to find out, lay down for a nap on a day when you've got a few hours to spare.. make a note of the time, and figure roughly how long it will take you to fall asleep, then when you wake up (naturally, not from an alarm or other outside stimulus) figure out exactly how long you slept, from when you fell asleep (time you laid down plus however many minutes you take to fall asleep) til you awoke.
If that number is ~3 hours or more then divide it in half.. continue this until you divide down to whatever is in the 1.5 hour neighborhood.. you might be an hour and 20 minutes, you might be an hour and 40 minutes, but the average is an hour 30 minutes.
When you know that, you know your natural cycle. If you wake up at the end or very beginning of a cycle you will be much more awake than if you wake up during the middle of a cycle.
Suppose your cycle is 1.5hrs, to make the math easy for this example.. You have to be up by 5, so you figure you'll go to be 8 hours before, and get your full amount of sleep. Problem! No multiple of 1.5 adds up (evenly) to 8.. So, when you go to bed at 9pm to get your full 8 hours of sleep, set your alarm for 4:30, and you will feel much more awake (waking up at the end of a sleep cycle) than if you sleep the extra half hour and try to wake up in the middle of a sleep cycle.
The guy who taught me this is a very successful salesman who sleeps 3 hours a night. His sleep cycle is exactly 1 hour 30 minutes.

When you wake up, open curtains, and windows for 5 mins to let some fresh air come in ( but not long enough to get frostbite) Take a shower ( the cooler the better) making sure you submerge face / head numerous times. Have a strong coffee, or 2, or 3 ! The more alive you make yourself act, the more awake you will end up feeling.

sleep with the curtains open. U could try setting up a trick.. Join some tubes and when the alarm rings, it knocks or turns something which pour out cold or hot water...anything that might wake a person up...maybe mousetraps???

If you are getting up before sunrise, it can help to put a lamp on a timer that will turn it on about 20 minutes before your alarm goes off. A halogen or full-spectrum light is best but probably any will help.
Ideally, it will help fool your brain into thinking it is time to get up but either way, getting up in a lighted room is easier than in a dark room....
Good Luck!

Get up at the SAME TIME everyday!!! Sooner or later your body will have a BUILT IN TIME CLOCK! Where you won't have to set an alarm clock. You will wake up automatically.

Set your alarm to go off much louder. You'll be up in a shot! I do it, got my radio tuned into a rock music station, quite loud! It gets me up in the morning!
