Not lakes in the form they occur on the surface but there are large areas of waterlogged chalk which are called aquifers which supply water to artesian wells etc.

The chalk in the North Downs stretches from Maidstone to Dover and has various artesian wells in it so I suppose you could regard the water table under the Downs as a body of water, I probably wouldn't describe it as a lake though. There are small underground man made reservoirs in the area but I have never heard of a vast lake.

Dont really know the answer to your question, it would have to be a very big lake to stretch that far, I know there is a vein of chalk that runs through the county from dover up towards maidstone so its a possibility, you could try looking for natural springs between the two places and draw your conclusions from that, I know for a fact there is a natural spring just off the A2 just outside of Sittingbourne, also apparently the river Bourne is now underground and flows into the creek at Sittingbourne.

Hope that helps
