Reports today say a plane was prevented from being blown up in mid air. Is this real or just yet another piece of news to divert our attention from the war like all the stupid made up news about car tax etc this week? Even if the plane was stopped from taking off etc, was it real or just a setup?

It isn't news really, no bomb was placed.
The security service has been eavesdropping on a cell group for months. It is simply that the government has chosen to release the "story" in order to bury the fact that Tony Blair is on holiday at a time of mounting criticism from people in his own party about his own mis-handling of the middle east crisis.

We often get news like this about terrorist threats in the UK and nearly all "suspects" are released without charge or are acquitted at trial.

Rather embarrassing for our Secret Service and Police , especially after the execution of the totally innocent "suicide bomber" Mr Menezes.

Massacres in the middle east and Blair goes on holiday in an attempt to resolve (escape) the problem.

Yet another attempt to spook the public, I don't recall such histeria and talk of losing our "freedoms", introducing identity cards and religious/racial profiling when the Irish Nationalist terrorists were causing death and destruction in Britain.

- Is this because (unlike government negotiations with the IRA terrorists) we are in for the long haul and there are to be no negotiations, merely a prolonged presence in Iraq and Afghanistan, oh and continued support for Israeli massacres in Lebanon an Gaza.

British terrorists don't really need to inflict casualties against us, the Iraqi and Afghan freedom fighters are doing an effective job against our brave boys and girls in the middle east.
Bring our boys and girls home Tony so that we don't have to continue with this threat, It is Bush's war in the middle east - not ours.

I think it's more likely to be a story to try and restore the British public's faith in our government and security services ability to protect us from the now so-called 'critical' threat level of a terrorist attack. I mean IF a plane did blow up today then the public would probably blame the government who would then try and shift the blame to the security services for lapses in security and intelligence.

However, at the moment our faith has temporarily been restored in the people we pay to protect us because they have alledgedly thwarted an attack that has been months in the planning.

Let's just hope it's true for all the right reasons.

yes, you are not dreaming, wake up - this was real. The chaotic mess of the uk intelligence of a terrost threat was very costly with airline delays and cancellations. This does not happen because they want a diversion of our attention from a war. This really was real, and glad they are on to things, wish they had this kind of intelligence for 911 in NY.

I have not heard about that but I do know that there was some plans to do that so that is why there is a hand luggage ban now in the UK.
