my husband is in the army and has been for 12 years.
He has bought alot of his equipment out of his own money as he says standard issue equipment just isn't good enough.

I would rather see the politicians take a pay cut and the forces given up to date equipment that works well. After all they are the ones that are out in the middle of war zones because the politicians sent them!

Our troops are only fodder for the Politicians and you know what fodder gets. The MD says three years that's a laugh, don't they mean they will provide the equipment after the conflict has ended.Politicians and MD top brass should serve the year on the front line so they can see what our troops have to put up with, but I suppose if they did do that then they would be supplied with the best of everything from the beginning. There is no justice.

some of the equipment is first rate, the problem is that the equipment is in short supply.

partly its this governments change to J-I-T supply, reducing stocks of equipment,
and Grasping Gordons concerns on government expenditure.
and rapid change in standards and types of equipment
and over committment of uk forces to meet political /media headlines
in part its poor planning (the MOD doesn't have a crystal ball, and cannot predict the next need for equipment

in short I'd guess the politicians are being treated in the manner they expect, after all 'their' lives are far more valuable and worthwhile than mere footsoldiers.

Have you ever visited a military base in the UK and then an NHS hospital.

The military base has money lavished on it. Facilities absolutely fantastic, living and working accommodation, the grounds, training facilties, offcies all wonderful the entire establishment has money oozing from it.

The hospital - dilapidated building poor grounds, notices begging for donations for an new scanner or whatever.

Furthermore, every project office responsible for military equipment etc within MOD has serving military officers within it to represent the military (including finance branches). If they don't have the right equipment they should have complained before,it's their own fault,.

Also why are there still about 20,000 British soldiers in Germany?
Couldn't have anything to do with extra allowances overseas?

It's a load of rubbish, mt husband served for 10 years and nothing has ever changed and I dont think it ever will.. It's disgraceful how they expect our men to fight in these conditions, while putting their lives in danger..

Don't get me on that one, I just agree that there are not enough resources and this needs to be sorted once and for all
