10. Alfie (both old and new versions)
09. Notebook
08.Birdcage
07.The 40 year old virgin
06. Something about Mary
05. Edward Scissor hands
04. To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar
03. The Nightmare Before Christmas
02. Elizabethtown
01. It's a Beautiful Life

Alfie is really good and it makes you think a lot about life. I hated the main character at first, but towards the end, I started to feel sorry for him. Notebook is probably one the top romantic movies, this is how all romantic movies should be. Birdcage is just a really funny movie and it teaches how you should accept yourself and your family. 40 yr. virgin is just really funny, I'm sure it has a message, but you'll just laugh your a-ss off. Same goes for Something about Mary. Edward Scissor hands is a strange but beautiful movie. I love the romance in it and I can totally relate to the idea about being outcast for being different. I'm not really sure why I like Too Wong Foo, but I do enjoy it. Nightmare before Christmas is just a beautiful movie to look at. The imagery is breathtaking in a dark way, not to mention the plot, the songs, and the characters. Elizabethtown really makes you think about the time you have and this will be so funny to you if you live in the south. My family is almost like the characters in the film. And the number 1 movie: It's a Beautiful Life. It has everything, romance, comedy, tragedy. It's an Italian film and it does involve the Holocaust. This movie has a gorgeous love story not just between man and woman, but also father and son. There are many moments that you laugh in the movie, but there are also many moments where you will cry.
Well, that's my list, hope you enjoy them.
I forgot, there is another movie that I want to add, although this would be 11. The Color Purple. It is a harsh movie that will make you mad, but it is a good movie. I cry so hard everytime I watch it.

some lesser known choices:
The Tall Guy - a silly romantic comedy with Jeff Goldblum and Emma Thompson

Velvet Goldmine - a 70's rock musical with gorgeous men (Ewan McGregor and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers), not for the homophobic, though.

Harold and Maude - not truly obscure, but early 70's so you may not be aware of it. My favorite of all time, a very quirky love story.

Zardoz - kind of defies description. half interesting sci-fi, half weird cheese, but not to be missed.

Five Children and It - wonderful kids movie, through the looking glass/lion, witch and wardrobe kind of adventure.

Orlando - striking period piece, based on the writing of Virgina Woolf

V for Vendetta- not at all obscure, but I loved it.

Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle - what could be better than Dorothy Parker played by Jennifer Jason Leigh?

Rocky Horror - Tim Curry in fishnets, and fun, sexy music.
