As you all may know, China and India appear to have the greatest potential amongst all the other nations of achieving superpower within the 21st century. Which country would you prefer and why? I would prefer India because it is a democratic nation, it is our important ally in Asia, and it does have a large english-speaking population.
China is not favorable because they are a communist. It is definitely not our ally. Their foreign policies are self-centered and they are not trustworthy.
I've asked this question before but I got too many dumb responses like, "China - because India will turn into Iraq," or "China...Azian pride!" or "India is dangerous. China is safe." PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER BASED ON PRECONCEIVED NOTIONS.
Use facts! I need intelligent answers.

I am not forcing you to agree with my views.
Just give me an intelligent answer. It seems like the people who answer 'China' are not giving enough information as to why they're supporting that country.

And just like any other American, I would prefer America myself. But this is only between India and China.

India is a democracy, not just in name.
Indians, just like us Americans, have the right to vote, speak, and do whatever they want.

Good answer, fire fighter.

Fishi, sorry, but your answer was the dumbest ever. You do realize that 40 years from now China is going to have a major recession because right now there population is peaking, they have a skewed population because of 1 child policy, right? Oh, you didn't know that.
Please, don't answer if you don't have intellingent answers.

Also, there isn't too much different in poverty between India and China.
India's poverty is available for the whole world to see because they are a democracy. They won't stop you from seeing their poverty. China's, however, is a different story. It's a communist.

To people who have provided facts, regardless of who they've supported, thank you. They were interesting.

We depend on China for a lot of things other than consumer goods.

China.
What does communist do harm to you? Actually China is not even a communist country. What determines the relationship between two countries is not "communist"or not. As long as two countries have common benefits and cooperation prospect, they can be ally. Chinese don't have right to vote, but this has nothing to do with the U.S.
The key is:Democracy has nothing to do with its foreign policy but with their citizens' welfare.
And communists in China and Korea aren't the same.Democracy in US and india aren't the same, either.
Indian has a large english-speaking population, yes .This is india's advantage. But india has caste system which directly indicates the fact that people in india are born unequal already.

Next question is religion. India has several religions that may conflict ,while the majority of Chinese even DON'T have ANY religion.Religion problem doesn't exist in China.

By the way,US's foreign policy is the most self-centered.
And your question is not democratic at all,you just want someone to support your view.

let me answer this question in the right way.......CHINA is going to be a superpower and so will INDIA be. But, the chinese may get there a little ahead........but personally, i would want INDIA to be the one as not only does my own patriotrism say this, but also various other important factors point this.

firstly, isn't america full of mafia and crime?....its gaining the name of being a "hub" for serial killers. But isnt it a superpower?
A coutry's superpower status is not confirmed by the lack of crime and poverty in it......its judged by how well it can tackle these problems.
INDIA, no matter what the WESTERN media says, has done a commendable job here. And though it has a huge population, its poverty has decreased by an amazing 60% in the last 10 years.....and same is the case with CHINA.

so , tecnically CHINA IS DEVELOPING FASTER....because of its hardware sector.......but industries can be built anywhere.....
But, INDIA has concentrated on the software side....and this is an advantage....a big one.
if INDIA calls its sons back, half of the world will stop working.
its like this.......CHINA IS A CREATOR.....INDIA IS THE EXECUTER.

finally, CHINA stands a better chance but INDIA should get a better deal.
Those who know India only through media or their small visits should giving their silly judgements....they know NOTHING.

China is already a super power and thats why it is a permanent member os the Security Council of UN & have the right to Veto. India is in the process to become one, I think it will take long time due to the domestic problems & some problems with the neighboring countries. However I wish both of them success.

China is communist in name only, since no self-respecting communist would ever let "foreign devils" exploit his own workers. As inconvenient as it may be for some, China is a capitalist oligarchy today and it's likely that it will remain so for the next century.

India, again, is a democracy in name only. Despite having a democratic system, it's a country plagued by centuries-old prejudice based on its caste system. There are still people in India that will not shake hands with the Untouchables, or even let talk to them. Ironically, the communist party of India is one of the chief reason why India is as modern as it appears.

Which country would be better suited for the world domination? Neither, in my view... Although if I had to choose, I'd pick China, because I like its folklore better than the Hindu one.

I would suggest don't set India on this power trip... because their are human issues which the country needs to work upon... I don't think super power status is such a great thing except to fool your public. Real thing that matters is the quality of life of your own people and the values you foster in your country. India should just see through this Western propaganda to set it up as the future world power while exploiting its market and resources.

Good life is not necessarily connected with GNP and consumption. Healthy subsistence and food security is much more important.

I hope China does not turn out to be a foolish country like America reeling on a power trip!

Neither. China will try to cheat it's way to the top, stepping on anyone's neck to get there and treat it's people like crap in the meantime. India has too many social, poverty and corruption problems to really achieve this. Let's hope a better model can be made. Maybe the EU?

I would not choose either one. but the worst would be china. unfortunately, it is coming to china being the one. my reasons is that Chinese companies have been buying many of the natural resources (land) in the US and other places in the world. The have bought many oil fields, and metal mines. They also have stated in the past that they would eventually take down the US, without shooting a single weapon. This is coming to pass with the ownership of land and goods all over the US. I am not sure exactly how much they own, but when one of our enemies own such an important part of American products, it does not look good for the future of this country financially.

NOT communist RED china, like you say, untrustworthy as are all communists..... and they are a totally worthless enemy... but, they may achieve the right to once again be called China within the 21st Century, have to end communism first though.... until then, the only moniker I reconize is communist Red china.... and a couple variations.

I don't care what India does as long as they quit answering 1-800 #s.....

At this point in time, I would definitely choose India over China. However, China has a huge head start in economy and Militarily.

Make no mistake about it. China is an enemy of the US. China is trying every way possible to build its defense up in a way that will overpower anything the US has.

In 20 years, China will the #1 superpower ... and the US will be on its knees.
