common sense

Being perceived as intelligent is different from being intelligent per se. I guess, basically, you need to be able to express yourself well and be well-read on a variety of things that are mostly important in your work/field to be seen as intelligent.

Here are some possibilities of how people may see a person as intelligent (even with the "lack" of it):

1. attractiveness - there is a tendency to perceive other positive qualities, including intelligence, in attractive people.

2. liking and likeness - we tend to see people we like, and people
who have the same views, tastes, and background/culture as us, as intelligent. Thus, not all kinds of people would readily attribute intelligence to you.

3. verbal smoothness - fast-talking, smooth-talking people seem to really know what they're saying, and seem more convincing

Of course, intelligence itself (a concept) is vaguely defined, and psychologists have different, sometimes opposing, views on it.
And it's not just what you know, but how well you acquire and use what you know.

Have some good common sense and making use of resources. Most people that seem intelligent perceive so because they can discuss about current events, like the situation in the middle east. Making a good, sound argument on things is also a bonus, but having an open mind to different aspects and views is also important too.

Don't ever force yourself to be smart. That never works.
Don't ever use words you are unsure about. That just makes you look stupid.
Be yourself and catch up on current events on the news. But don't be too caught up in bias opinions! Make sure you ahve amny sources for news!

Real information about a single topic. I used to work with a guy from Texas. He was almost sub-literate. One day he started talking about Blue's Musicians. He was eloquent, informed, passionate...

If you have real knowledge and facts about any topic, intelligent people will perceive you as intelligent, even if you are not 'book-learned'

The other thing to do to appear intelligent is to admit when you don't know something and ask questions. Anytime I hear or see someone asking "Excuse me, I don't know what that word means" My respect for them goes up...

When writing, improper spelling reeks of sloppiness and unintelligence... My own spelling is a bit wobbly, but I never write anything without SPELL_CHECK!!!

Good Luck!

Being intelligent is knowing a little about a lot of different topics or knowing a whole lot on one certain topic. People say a whitty fast to answer person is intelligent because they always know what to say and when to say it. Intelligents is the ability to carry on an intellectual conversation with any one at any given moment in time! Why do you ask? Message me and lets see how intelligent you are! OH AND IT IS A LOT MORE THEN JUST COMMON SENSE!!!! Our President is supposed to be an intelligent person, but Bush has NO Common sense none at all!

I have found that intelligence has nothing to do with one's station in life. I have known some brilliant warehouse workers and some really vapid professors.

People are intelligent in different ways. Some have a strength in music, some in math, some in language and some are blessed to have strengths in several areas.

But intelligence is so much more than intellectual prowess. It is wisdom, compassion, giving, compromising (or not) and being able to integrate all of that into who you are. . . and only life can teach you that.

You should seek knowledge for your own gratification and not worry about trying to impress anyone with your intelligence. Try learning about topics that you already have an interest in... it's really enjoyable to learn something new about a subject you already like. Good luck!
