Stay out of the sun or wear sun-block all the time...

it could be hereditary, if other members in your family also have dark skin, then it probably is permanent. Sometimes skin &/or hair will gradually darken over time. If it's due to sun exposure then you should either reduce the amount of time you're in the sun or try wearing sunblock (SPF 30 or higher).

to an extent, it is reversible. You would have to take care of your skin by having proper bath, cleaning your face atleast 3 times a day, avoid going out in sun uselessly. Cholrine in swimming pools also darkens the skin.

Yeah swimming makes people dark..but this darkening goes off after sometime..but if you swim everyday then you will not get the fairness back...try applying some sunscreen lotions...

Exposure to sun will not give you permanent skin darkening but your skin will be prone to pigmentation.

It could be genetic, it could be reversible. A lot of it depends on genetic background and environmental conditions. I wouldn't let it bother you. Everyone likes something different.

Yes, it is permanent.
Unless you bleach yourself from head to toe, nothing will help.
Avoid sun as much as possible.
