This is a two tier question: 1) Which nation is cooler? I expect by way of 'cooler' you mean 'hip', 'going down', and many others... The reply to that would be - It relies what a part of the nation you experience. London, Liverpool, Manchester would all be shiny city's - however, Burnley, Leeds, Brixton can be viewed rough (Uncool) Dublin, Cork, Galway all great 'cool' metropolis's ( All these city's additionally include unhealthy area's filled with drug pushing filth -'uncool') 2) The Catholic / Protestant debate mentioned with the aid of the deadbeats above me, will not be valued at talking about. Any put up that highlights this as a aspect must be not noted - each catholics & Protestants are cool (As is every different faith and culture underneath the solar!) Getting back to your query - both international locations are kind of the identical.

Because Scotland and Wales are countries, but they just aren't free to be their own countries, having been conquered by England. Northern Ireland is supposed to be part of the whole island of Ireland, but isn't free to become part of the whole, having been conquered by England. All the revolutions of the peoples in these areas failed and therefore, they aren't free to be real countries. England is a country because of their "divine right of kings" in past centuries who practiced "might makes right" conquering everyone else. Remember this when you hear the pipes play "Scotland the Brave" and remember William Wallace, who was betrayed into English hands by his own people.

If you look at the legislation of UK and also Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, you will realise they are countries; BECAUSE they decided to be countries and designate themselves as such. Unfortunately the UK does not have a written constitution, so it's a bit difficult to prove.

How do you know Washington, California, Wyoming etc are states and not countries? (Because USA and the states deside to designate themselves as such). LOL.

because they probably should be..

..as to the second part of your question, countries have been also formed when there is sufficient 'ethnicity' element in a people, as for them to feel united as such and apart from 'others'..

..since we got so far, I would also say that US and the UK are not exactly the same.. people came to the US, later on they build a country.. while the various peoples that inhabit Ireland, England , Scotland etc. existed as different people since their recorded/known beginning
