Long story short, it was the heat supply that killed them. Maybe it
was a little stove that malfunctioned, giving off carbon monoxide
fumes.
What does three hours have to do with anything? That's when
they decided to catch some sleep. They didn't bother to re-check
the stove before retiring. At some point, the odorless gas
filled the room & suffocated them.
Now, about the "locked from inside" part---the lock wasn't
damaged, was it? It was intact. . That rules out an intruder
unless this other person climbed in through a window. However,
the window (assuming that there was one), and the locked door
are both irrelevant, since neither figures in on how they died.
The stove was to blame. Happens all the time.

If the cabin was locked from the inside, why couldn't they unlock it. Was it cold? Because if they had a fire going they could have gotten carbon monoxide poisioning, Just a guess

3 were in the cabin where it was warm and cozy and 3 were outside the cabin exposed to the elements...the story doesent say how many people were involved or where the 3 were that died ...
