Because your question is in the 2006 World Cup category, I would have to say Ballack - he performed exceptionally well for Germany and captained his side correctly.
Ronaldinho & Lampard were disappointing and did not play to their usual high standards. Gerrard was good at times but messed up his penalty.
Outside of the World Cup, I would say Ronaldinho is the best midfielder out of the names mentioned.

Did you watch the world cup?? Lampard couldn't score a goal, wasn't even close! Gerrard didn't play at all same as ronaldinho they both played like ****! So from the World Cup Ballack stepped up and played pretty nice. But then you can look at the Champions league and you would have to go with Ronaldinho who is the best midfielder in the world!!! But wait Mesy is going to be sick!

Ronaldinho, Ballack, Lampard and Gerrard in that order.
Lampard may have had a poor world cup (as did Ronaldinho), but Gerrard is always poor at that level.

Is ronaldinho strictly a midfielder ? you don't really see him tracking back or trying to win the midfield battle ? Not knocking him what he can do skill wise and attacking ability is second to none - more if you were choosing a midfielder to do everything (Score goals, create goals, track back, battle for the ball, control the tempo of a game) it'd be gerrard for me hands down he has the ability to do all of this.

Out of the players given, I would say Gerrard. I haven't counted Ronaldinho as he is more of an attacking player. But if you asked which player is the best then I think Ronaldinho, by a long stretch.

Take C. Ronaldo off that list!!!! My choice is unquestionably STEVEN GERRARD... Not only the greatest midfielder, but also the greatest footballer ever!!! He's got everything: natural undeniable talent, vision, a remarkable shooting accuracy, excellent tacklings, perfect goals... He's on the other side a wonderful captain, very responsable and has inspired his mates and lead Liverpool towards so many and many victories, such as the unforgettable final of Instambul... He's just perfect, from talent to charcter and attitude...He'll 4ever be the best, top-class men...

It's Ronaldinho. Though he didn't play that well at the last World Cup, he's still the best midfielder.

If i have 2 choose from these 4 players,i would say Ronaldinho. His ball technique is way above the others and oso played an instrumental part 4 his club's Champions League n Primera Liga success. However, his performance in World Cup is below par due 2 tactics employed by Carlos Alberto Parreira.Personally, all the 4 players above didn't played well in WC.

I'll Surely go with ronaldinho - Even though brasil got kicked out fro wrld cup - ronaldinho was still one of the best player. He has got skill, tactics and hardworking and one of the blessed ones out there. He has not been blessed with all the powers but he has sharpened the arrow point by hard working and expirimenting new things at every practice session.
